DORA — Elida appeared to be cruising to a win over District 2-1A and Roosevelt County rival Dora on Thursday, leading 4-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh.

The Coyotes, though, had other ideas. With the bases loaded and two out, Gavin Martin’s infield bloop fell in for an RBI single, and the tying runs scored on the play when the Tigers committed a pair of errors.

No worries, though. Gunner Martin singled home the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth, and the Tigers (2-3, 1-0 district) added two more runs on passed balls to nail down a 7-4 victory.

Elida led 3-1 after the first inning, then tacked on one more in the top of the seventh before the Coyotes (0-8, 0-3) rallied back to force extras.

Sophomore Levi Victor and senior Teagan Burton each pitched four innings for Elida, both striking out six. Senior Austin Wall worked the first six innings for the Coyotes (0-8, 0-3) and fanned nine.

Wall was the only player on either team with more than one hit, going 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs scored and an RBI.

Elida is slated to host the Texico junior varsity on Monday, then Dora visits Elida for a pair of contests on Friday.

Texico 10, Santa Rosa 0 (Tuesday) — The Wolverines bounced back from their first loss of the season a day earlier at Eunice, breaking open the District 6-2A matchup against the previously unbeaten Lions with an eight-run fourth.

Senior David Davalos tossed 4 1/3 innings of one-hit ball, striking out 10, before cousin Freddy Davalos got the final two outs, both on strikeouts. The only hit for Santa Rosa (7-1, 3-1) was a third-inning single by junior Jaron Sanchez.

Coming into the matchup, the Lions had allowed just 10 runs for the season, including only one in their previous four outings.

Texico (8-1, 3-0 district) pounded out 12 hits in the contest, with six players getting two apiece. Junior Brayden Bender collected a pair of RBIs for the Wolverines.

Texico hosted Pecos in a district twin bill on Saturday. The Wolverines play a return doubleheader at Santa Rosa on Tuesday, beginning at 4 p.m.
