Scouts holding sign-up events
August 30, 2020
ROSWELL — The Conquistador Council of the Boy Scouts of America is planning sign-up events for clubs in Curry and Roosevelt counties this week.
Parking lot signup events are scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Portales’ First United Methodist Church and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Clovis’ First United Methodist Church. Information will be provided on scouting, registration and program items for the upcoming year of scouting.
Matt Bristol is board president for the Conquistador Council, headquartered in Roswell with oversight of seven New Mexico counties, including Curry and Roosevelt, and Farwell.
BSA programs are divided by age and activity for boys and girls — Cub Scouting for grades K-4 and Scouts BSA for grades 6-12. The BSA also offers co-ed career exploring programs for ages 10-20.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Bristol said, the council has moved several events online or found other ways to limit in-person attendance.
“COVID may have changed how we meet, but it did not change that we meet,” Bristol said. “Scouting is prepared for new teaching, learning, and mentoring tools, such as, but not limited to virtual meetings and webcasts.”
