Chamber asking for input on slogans

CLOVIS — Community members are being asked to weigh in on a new slogan for the city as part of a years-long process to develop the new Clovis community brand.

The Clovis Industrial Development Corp. and the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce are asking residents to vote by Sept. 14 for one of the following four slogans:

• A Place to Call Home

• Grow With Us

• Promising Possibilities

• Where You Belong

To vote for a slogan, visit surveymonkey.com/r/P7QCBC9 . The survey has three questions and can be completed in under a minute.

The slogan, according to a chamber news release, is intended to resonate with community members and be something Clovis can deliver to anybody who comes into the community. The CIDC and chamber will make the final decision, but will use the survey results as part of the decision-making process.

“It is extremely important that our community feels represented by this brand if we want it to be successful,” said Ernie Kos, executive director of the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce.

“Results from our first community survey showed our main assets as being welcoming, diverse, friendly and inclusive and this survey will let everyone vote for their favorite slogan to go with the brand promise that embodies that idea.”

The chamber began work early last year with Once a Day Marketing of Santa Fe, which has tackled similar branding efforts for Farmington, Los Lunas, Gallup, Alamogordo, and Los Alamos.

During a July virtual forum on the branding efforts, Once a Day co-partner James Glover discussed the company’s prior work with other New Mexico communities and said a brand that delivers on its promises impacts behavior. He noted the Starbucks brand is successful enough that somebody will get up, drive across town to buy coffee and return home even though there’s a coffee maker in the kitchen.

Selection of a slogan will complete the first phase of a community branding initiative. The next phase will result in creating marketing and communication tools needed to develop and sustain the brand.
