Opinion: Tote bags, pet health ahead on show

Information on making totebags, improving pet health and making gazpacho will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” 9:30 p.m. Tuesday and noon Thursday (all times Mountain).

Hilarie Dayton is the owner of Little Stitch Studio, and she teaches classes on making various types of totebags. She’s going to show and tell the construction process and the best way to put the pieces together. She’ll also discuss different strap options to ensure comfort and fit. She’s from Norfolk, California.

Alex McKinnon is the founder and CEO of Kinn, Inc. By using the most sanitary option for a pet bowl, pet parents can be more confident that their pet is not being exposed to harmful germs and are maintaining an adequate level of hydration. His product, the Kinn Kleanbowl, can help solve some of these problems. He is from Aliso, Viejo, California.

Gazpacho is a cold vegetable soup with tomatoes as the main ingredient. Carol Fenster, a nutritionist and author, will demonstrate her version of gazpacho that offers a time-saving shortcut. Even those who are gluten intolerant can eat it since bread isn’t used as a thickener. Her company is Savory Palate, Inc. and she lives in Centennial, Colorado.

Information on basic cupcake decorating, using an online room planner to arrange furniture and staging a home when selling will be the featured topics on “Creative Living” noon Tuesday and 2 p.m. Saturday.

Nancy Siler formerly represented Wilton Brands in Woodridge, Illinois, and she’s going to show how to do a variety of techniques that make decorating cupcakes, cookies and other delicacies even easier.

Lacy Jones is the Visual Coordinator for Havertys Furniture Co. in Lubbock. and she’s going to show how to arrange any room in the house in just five easy steps with an easy-to-use online room planner.

Did you know that a house will sell 80% faster if it has been staged? Designer Diane Romick will share lots of ideas for expanded staging. She’ll also share her seven-step approach to helping home owners sell their home quicker and for more money. Her business is Castle Design Studio, LLC in Newport Coast, California.

Quick and easy gazpacho for 2

1 1/3 cups canned tomato juice, divided (two 5.5-ounce cans), divided

2 tablespoons chopped onion

1/4 to 1/2 jalapeno, seeds and veins removed, coarsely chopped (or to taste)

1 small garlic clove, chopped

1 1/2 teaspoons fresh lime juice

1/4 English cucumber, diced, plus very thin half-slices for garnish

1/2 celery rib, finely chopped

1 1/2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro, divided

In a food processor, puree 3/4 cup of the tomato juice along with the onion, jalapeno, garlic, and lime juice. Transfer to a large bowl and stir in the cucumber, celery, 2 tablespoons of the cilantro, and the remaining tomato juice. Divide evenly among two soup bowls or goblets and chill for at least an hour to let the flavors meld. Serve chilled, garnished with a half-slice of cucumber and the remaining cilantro as garnish. Serves 2. (This recipe can be doubled.)
