Snow headed for Clovis, Portales

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning — in effect from 11 p.m. Monday through 11 p.m. Tuesday — for eastern New Mexico.

Forecasters are predicting heavy snow, with accumulations of 4 to 7 inches, across Curry, De Baca and Roosevelt counties.

NWS warns “Travel could be very difficult. Breezy conditions may result in localized areas of blowing snow and reduced visibility.”

Temperatures are expected to dip into the 20s or below Monday night through Wednesday morning.

The high for Tuesday is expected to be 29 degrees. Winds on Tuesday are expected to be brisk, with gusts to 30 mph.

Rain showers are expected before the snow begins to fall Monday night.

NWS suggests:

“If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.”
