Clovis schools call off Wednesday classes

CLOVIS — Tuesday's snowstorm means school's out Wednesday for Clovis Municipal Schools.

School officials said Tuesday they will close campuses primarily to ensure safety for students and staff.

"Multiple factors must be considered when making a determination to close our schools, one of which being the extensive time and effort involved in clearing parking lots and sidewalks at the District’s 22 sites," read a school news release.

"With limited equipment and staff available for this task, and significant snow cover from (Tuesday's) weather event, it is estimated a full day will be needed to prepare our grounds for the return of students. With that in mind, even if weather conditions improve Wednesday, preparing our facilities will still require significant efforts, necessitating the closure of schools until completion."

Officials said classes are scheduled to resume Thursday, weather permitting.
