Prep roundup: CCS girls get home win, Grady splits

CLOVIS — Juniors Lola DeGroot and Makayla Robinson combined for 32 points and Clovis Christian’s girls overcame an early 12-point deficit on Monday to edge the Portales junior varsity 49-46 at the CCS gym.

DeGroot scored seven of her game-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, while Robinson added 13.

Adrianna Garcia had 11 points to lead the Ram JV.

An Eagles’ boys contest against Vaughn was scheduled to follow, but Vaughn canceled early Monday afternoon.

On Saturday:

Grady boys 54, Fort Sumner 37 — At Fort Sumner, the Bronchos bolted to a 13-point halftime lead and picked up their second District 4-1A victory.

Sophomore Dustin Bryant keyed a balanced attack with 14 points for Grady (9-6, 2-0 district), while senior Chisum Rush put in 13 points and junior Isaiah Mitchell had 11.

Senior Jacob Maxwell finished with 12 points for the Foxes (9-10, 1-2).

Fort Sumner 61, Grady girls 19 — The Vixens held Grady to 10 points in the first three quarters, riding four 3-pointers and 12 poits from senior Delaney Oberg to the win.

No one else reached double figures for Fort Sumner (14-5, 2-1), but 11 players hit the scoring column. High scorers for the Lady Bronchos (6-9, 0-2) were juniors Isabelle Martinez and Teryn Foote, each with five points.
