Zoo Christmas program continues

CLOVIS - Critters, candy, cocoa, caroling and extension cords ... lots of extension cords.

That's the formula for the city's annual Christmas Nites at the Zoo.

The event started Tuesday and continues tonight, Thursday and Friday with free admission from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

"We have some folklorico dancers from La Casita performing on Wednesday," Zoo Director Vince Romero said. "We've got candy games for the kids, free cocoa for everybody."

Romero just laughed when asked how many lights were up, as he couldn't narrow it down beyond "thousands."

The staff was also setting up a karaoke machine loaded with Christmas favorites.

"It's nice to see the kids get all excited," Romero said. "They get all happy seeing the lights."

The night event is one of two special events held by the zoo each year, along with a "Boo in the Zoo" event at Halloween.
