Cancer claims longtime police officer

CLOVIS - Longtime Clovis Police Capt. Roger Dial died Friday morning following a battle with cancer.

A news release from Clovis police stated:

"... Dial was a 26-year decorated veteran of the department and had worked in all areas of the agency over his distinguished career.

"He was a consummate professional; loved by the community, respected by his fellow officers and public safety throughout the state."

Dial joined the department in 1993 as a patrol officer, and spent time in nearly every phase of the department, from patrol to SWAT to the detective unit. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2012 and captain in 2015. At the time of his passing, Dial’s official position was support services division commander.

Dial was frequently a public face for the department, and usually functioned as the department’s representative at the Public Works Committee and various other public meetings.

"Capt. Dial was an outstanding member of the city of Clovis, a consummate professional, and as an integral part of the city of Clovis, he will be missed," City Manager Justin Howalt said. "Our thoughts and praryers are with the Dial family, and our police department especially at this time."
