Trees going down on Clovis' Main Street

CLOVIS — The root of the problem is the roots. So the trees on South Main Street are going away.

“The tree roots have caused the sidewalk to buckle and create a hazard,” City Manager Justin Howalt wrote in an email on Thursday.

“We are replacing the sidewalks between 4th and Grand. It is the same scope project that we completed between 5th and 4th.”

Howalt estimated nine or 10 trees will be removed because of the root issues.

We will have a more complete story in Sunday’s paper.
