ENMU men improve to 6-0

September 22, 2019

BISMARCK, N.D. — The Eastern New Mexico men’s soccer team entered this weekend with their best start in program history at 4-0 and their highest national ranking in history at No. 13.

The record climbed, and the poll position is likely to follow suit after the Greyhounds took a pair of contests in Bismarck, topping host St. Mary 1-0 on Friday and Montana State-Billings 3-0 on Saturday.

Now, in addition to the best start in program history, the Greyhounds go into each game looking to improve on a program winning streak of six matches.

The Greyhounds were the aggressor in both contests, outshooting the host Pirates 14-4 (8-0 on goal) and 17-7 (7-5 on goal) against the Yellowjackets Saturday. Keeper Ross Dalton saved all five shots he saw Saturday and recorded his third and fourth shutouts of the season.

The Greyhounds had four different goal-scorers in the two games, with Charlie Hackshall claiming a goal and an assist Saturday.

Gabriel Peres netted Thursday’s game-winner less than three minutes into the second half on an Ivo Mendoza assist, and Cesar Ochoa and Craig Brand also netted Saturday tallies.

The Greyhounds open Lone Star Conference play Thursday at West Texas A&M, then host Texas-Permian Basin at home in a noon Saturday contest.

ENMU women tie to stay undefeated — The Greyhound women, ranked 10th regionally, dominated the offensive numbers but tied in the only category that counted — 0-0 Saturday at Southern Nazarene.

The Greyhounds (3-0-1) outshot the host Storm 27-11 and enjoyed advantages of 8-3 in shots on goal and 7-4 in corner kicks.

Both Ashlynn Pritchett for the Storm and Hannah Dockweiler for the Greyhounds stopped every shot on goal, and Dockweiler’s season shutout streak improved to 380:00.

The women open Lone Star Conference play Friday at West Texas A&M, in a rematch of last season’s LSC tournament semifinal.
