Police arrest suspect in armed smoke shop burglary

CLOVIS — Police last week arrested one suspect in the armed nighttime burglary of a local smoke shop.

Angelo Lopez, 18, of Clovis, was charged with six counts including felony aggravated burglary, battery and assault and misdemeanor impersonating a peace officer in connection with the Sept. 2 incident.

Savanah Sena told The News this month that three men in the dead of night broke into her establishment on the 100 block of North Pile street, initially claiming to be Clovis police officers and then fighting with her inside while firing gunshots and pistol-whipping her.

Police said Sena told her "that once they were inside they yelled at her where is the money at and give us your money and pointed a pistol in her face" but ultimately "left from the business without any money or any property," according to the arrest warrant affidavit.

When police spoke with Sena immediately after the incident, she was "covered from head to all over her shirt in blood" and ultimately had to have staples in her head and stitches in her hand, records show.

Sena told The News that she recognized one of the assailants but declined to identify him before police made any arrests.

Lopez was arrested Tuesday and entered no plea on the charges in a court appearance Wednesday, at which time he was also ordered to be held without bond, according to court records.

Records did not list a specific public defender representing Lopez as of Saturday afternoon.
