RICHARDSON, Texas — If preseason polls are any indication, Dallas Baptist is expected to be right at the top of the cross country heap in its first year with the Lone Star Conference.

The Patriots are picked overwhelmingly to win the women’s championship, and predicted to finish second in the men’s race behind defending champ West Texas A&M according to a poll of LSC head coaches, sports information directors and media members — 38 voters in the men’s poll and 41 in the women’s poll.

Eastern New Mexico was slotted sixth in the women’s poll and 10th in the men’s poll, after each finishing seventh in last season’s LSC championship.

The first preseason polls for the expanded LSC includes 16 men’s teams and 17 women’s teams.

West Texas A&M dominated the men’s poll with 32 of the 38 first-place votes and Dallas Baptist taking the remaining six.

The women’s poll saw DBU grab 34 of the 41 first-place votes with the remaining first-place tallies staying in the top five — defending champ Midwestern State (3), Tarleton State (3), Lubbock Christian and West Texas A&M (1).

The LSC Cross Country Championships are Oct. 26 at Western New Mexico. Teams and runners are awarded national invites based on season-long performance and regional championship finishes.
