“The League of Wives” by Heath Hardage Lee shares the true, untold story of the extraordinary lengths taken by women who confronted the U.S. government to bring home their husbands, prisoners of war in the Vietnam War. Forming the National League of Families, they became the most fervent advocates to facilitate their freedom from years of brutal torture, starvation and deplorable living conditions, and to account for those missing in action.

“Energy: A Human History” by Richard Rhodes deftly explores the fascinating history behind energy transitions over time — wood to coal to oil to electricity and beyond. People have lived and died, businesses have prospered and failed, and nations have risen to world power and declined, all over energy challenges. Ultimately, the history of these challenges tells the story of humanity itself and may help guide our way into the future.

“My Girls: A Lifetime with Carrie and Debbie” by Todd Fisher presents a revelatory and touching tribute to the lives of Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds written by the person who knew them best. Filled with moving stories, both candid and uproarious, of growing up among Hollywood royalty, this moving account of two extraordinary women proves their connection to each other was so powerful not even death could separate them for long.

“Scones and Scoundrels” by Molly MacRae conveys the feel of western Scotland with humor, luscious food and the friendships of four ladies running the Ye Bonnie Books and Bed and Breakfast with Tea Shop. When author Daphne Wood, who some describe as “barking mad” returns to her native home, not everyone is looking forward to her arrival. As mysterious deaths and break-ins ensue, and rumors of secret societies take root, a list of suspects that originally looked almost non-existent begins to grow.

“Before She Was Found” by Heather Gudenkauf offers a gripping thriller about three young girlfriends, a dark obsession and a chilling crime that shakes up a quiet Iowa town. For 12-year-old Cora Landry and her friends Violet and Jordyn, it was supposed to be an ordinary sleepover — movies and Ouija and talking about boys. But when they decide to sneak out to go to the abandoned rail yard on the outskirts of town, little do they know that their innocent games will have dangerous consequences.

“King of Kings” by Wilbur Smith weaves two stories with gusto featuring the great, the good and pure evil. Ryder Courtney and Penrod Ballantyne take center stage, starting in Egypt in the late 1800’s, following Ryder’s journey into Abyssinia to build a silver mine with a great many trials and tribulations along the way. Meanwhile in Cairo, Amber’s fiancée breaks off their engagement after being told some unsavory facts about her future husband. Penrod’s story then goes from the depths of depravity to one of salvation.
