ROSWELL — When the Portales tennis teams arrived at Roswell Monday afternoon, they found a pair of Roswell teams winless on the season.
When the Rams left, that statement was still correct as both teams controlled their duals — the boys winning 6-3, the girls 7-2.
Portales resumes its District 4-4A schedule Thursday at home against Lovington. Monday’s wins bring the boys to a 6-4 record with a 2-1 mark in district, while the girls improved to 7-3 and 2-1 in 4-4A play.
Roswell moved to 0-3-1 on the boys side and 0-6 on the girls side.
The boys won five of six singles matches on the day, while the girls swept their three doubles matches.
Rams who went 2-0 on the day included:
n Pancho Lopez, who topped David Gomez in No. 1 singles 6-2, 6-3, then joined Zeke Aguirre to beat Gomez and Esteban Mata in three sets in No. 1 doubles.
n Aguirre, who beat Mata 6-1, 6-3 in No. 2 singles.
n Laura Blaeser, who swept Adriana Carroll 6-1, 6-1 in No. 2 singles and teamed up with Taryn Wood to defeat Kristen Griffen and Delainy Sanchez 6-2, 6-3 in No. 2 doubles.
n Wood, who topped Kathia Hernandez 6-0, 6-1 in No. 3 singles.
n Mikaela Garza ,a straight-sets winner over Marlene De La 6-1, 6-0 in No. 5 singles and a 6-3, 6-2 winner in No. 3 doubles with Vanessa Lucero.
n Lucero, a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Natalia Lozano.
