Xcel warns about possible outages due to high winds

CLOVIS — Xcel Energy is telling its customers to be ready for possible outages today, with high winds predicted for eastern New Mexico and west Texas.

Winds between 35 and 50 mph are expected for the day. While the power company is optimistic conditions won’t be as damaging as the March 13 events, it’s making preparations for similar incidents of power lines and power poles going down.

The company has told contractors and field employees to be ready for outages, and is establishing dispatching centers throughout the area.

Customers are encouraged to use xcelenergy.com or the Xcel Energy smartphone app, which allows for notifications or reporting of outages.

Customers may also call 1-800-859-1999 to report downed lines or outages.
