Between Issues: Loverboy to headline Clovis Music Festival

The musical lineup is nearly complete for the Clovis Music Festival, with performances June 26-28 at the Marshall Auditorium.

The June 28 headliner is Loverboy, with an opening act still to be determined.

Loverboy, a Canadian rock band, is best known for its 1980s hits “Working for the Weekend,” “Turn Me Loose” and “Lovin’ Every Minute of It.”

The music festival will again coincide with the Draggin’ Main festivities during the week.

“The thing I’m most excited about this year — although I’m excited about Loverboy — is Wednesday, we’re going to have a faith and family night,” Clovis-Curry County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Ernie Kos said. “We’ve got Josh Wilson coming. I didn’t know his name, but then when I heard some of his songs I realized I’d heard him before. His songs are on K-Love a lot, so I think a lot of people will be excited.”

The June 26 show will feature Wilson, and the June 27 show features Lance Lipinski and the Lovettes — which will provide a retrospective on the 50s and 60s rock.

Bustos honored — Eastern New Mexico senior Danee Bustos was selected Wednesday as the Lone Star Conference's women's track athlete of the week.

Bustos, a Belen native, won the 200 Saturday at the Greyhound Open. She crossed the finish line at 24.51, with the elevation-converted time of 24.58 sixth in Division II so far this season. She was also part of Saturday's winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams.

The track team is heading to Austin for the three-day Texas Relays, starting Thursday.

Fans can see her again locally during the Lone Star Conference outdoor championships, scheduled for May 2-4 at Greyhound Stadium.
