Garrett retiring as municipal judge

Commission tasked to appoint replacement for next 12 months

CLOVIS — After 17 years of serving as Clovis’ municipal judge, Jan Garrett is retiring.

Garrett’s final day will be April 4.

“In the 17 years I have served as judge, I have had nothing but support from the administration and the commission,” Garrett said in a release from the city.

Garrett ran unopposed for her most recent term last March.

“I would like to commend Judge Garrett for her years of service to the community as the city’s municipal judge,” Mayor David Lansford said. “Judge Garrett has performed her judicial duties with consummate skill and integrity, and has been an outstanding elected official.”

According to section 4-5 of Clovis city code, the city commission shall appoint a qualified elector to fill the vacancy within 30 days. The city commission meets Thursday and April 4, but could also conduct a special meeting to appoint a replacement.

The final two years of the term will be up for election next March.
