One arrested in Main Street burglary

CLOVIS — Police on Friday arrested one of four young suspects in connection with the burglary the weekend prior of over $40,000 in property from an antiques store on Clovis’ Main Street.

Ryan Hernandez, 19, entered no plea this week in magistrate court on four felony charges, including larceny and aggravated burglary. Clovis police allege he and three others broke through a front-door window of the business belonging to Robert Vilandry shortly after midnight Feb. 10.

Vilandry on Feb. 11 gave police an itemized description of inventory totaling what he estimated in excess of $39,000, including “collector’s knives, swords, jewelry, Indian turquoise, silver, multiple coin collections, at least four rifle style pellet/bb guns ... and miscellaneous other valuables.”

Hernandez, allegedly seen on store surveillance video sporting “a ‘man bun’ hair style with his long hair pulled up into a pony tail on the top of his head,” was positively identified by a Clovis police officer and detective “who know him from previous encounters,” according to a criminal complaint.

Vilandry told The News he continued identifying stolen items in the past week, discovering a laptop and other items taken from an upper level and bringing the estimated value of his losses to over $50,000, of which “not a thing” has been relocated.

A Clovis public defender officer told The News that Hernandez’ legal representation was conflicted out and an attorney representing him Tuesday had not yet been named. He remained in jail that afternoon without bond.
