ALBUQUERQUE — Senior Danee Bustos set a new personal record in the 60-meter dash, and helped set a school record in the 4-by-400 relay as Eastern New Mexico concluded its short indoor track and field regular season over the weekend at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico.
The Greyhounds head to Lubbock this weekend for the Lone Star Conference Indoor Championships, which will be Saturday and Sunday at Texas Tech’s indoor facility.
Bustos finished 16th overall in the 60, crossing the finish line in 7.78 seconds to top her previous season best of 7.82. She now is tied for the third-fastest time in school history with teammate Maijah Mathis.
Bustos, Mathis, Kandace Miles and Kiana Covington teamed up in the 4-by-400 to finish in 3:56.15. The previous school record was more than three seconds slower, and was set in last year’s LSC championships by Bustos, Covington, Miles and Mason Swanson.
Other notable performances for the Greyhounds included:
n Junior Ivar Moinat placed fifth in the 800 at 1:52.04.
n The men’s 4-by-400 relay team of Travonne Armstead, Ezra Bagwell, Brandon Chavez, and Andrew Villegas produced the third-best relay mark in the history of the program after totaling a 3:19.59, just 2.49 seconds off of the record mark set by Armstead, Chavez, Moinat, and Villegas at the Texas Tech Open last week.
n Mercy Rotich ran the fifth-fastest mile in school history, finishing 15th with a 5:18.65.
n Zhane Gurule set the fifth-best long jump mark in school history, jumping 4.82 meters (15-9-3/4).
