Portales board to recognize teachers

January 13, 2019

PORTALES — The Portales Municipal Schools Board of Education will move to a larger venue for Monday’s meeting, which will be held in the junior high school cafeteria.

Superintendent Johnnie Cain said the change of location was made to account for the dozens of exemplary and highly effective teachers who will be on hand for recognition.

Cain said the district had 75 teachers qualify as exemplary or highly effective.

Also on the agenda for Monday’s meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. in the junior high cafeteria:

• The board will consider changes to policy regarding inappropriate social media content.

The item was tabled at the board’s Dec. 10 meeting because Cain said he had received additional suggestions from the district’s attorney earlier that day.

Cain told The News on Friday that some of the items addressed by the new policy are already covered by the district’s policy regarding harassment. But the district wanted to be more specific about inappropriate content as it pertains to social media.

• The board will hear a presentation on the district’s general obligation bond sale and vote on a resolution authorizing an application for future bond funding.
