It was a rough week on the road for Eastern New Mexico’s volleyball team, a clean sweep of the Greyhounds against West Texas A&M, nationally-ranked Tarleton State and Angelo State.
The Hounds lost all three matches 3-0. They dropped Tuesday’s West Texas A&M match in Canyon, Texas, 25-15, 25-16, 25-21. Kaitlyn Kluna had 20 assists, 11 digs and an ace for Eastern. Alba Ontiveros had 20 digs and two assists for ENMU.
Friday against 13th-ranked Tarleton in Stephensville, Texas, the Greyhounds lost 25-12, 25-12, 25-21. Ontiveros had 17 digs and two assists in that match, with Kluna adding 12 assists and eight digs, and Rae Sapiga contributing 11 assists.
Saturday against Angelo State in Angelo, Texas, the Hounds lost 25-14, 25-16, 25-17. Ontiveros tallied 13 digs and three assists, with Kluna contributing 11 assists and five digs, and Jasmine Gannon supplying 10 kills.
ENMU emerged from the week with an 8-16 overall record, 6-10 in the Lone Star Conference. The Greyhounds have yet another road match on Tuesday against Western New Mexico in Silver City, with a 6 p.m. scheduled start time.
The Hounds will finally play home again this Friday, taking on Texas A&M-Kingsville at 6 p.m.
Women’s soccer shut out on road — Rain fell on the Eastern New Mexico women’s soccer team Thursday, and things were metaphorically gloomy for the Greyhounds, too, as they lost 3-0 to Lone Star Conference foe Texas Woman’s on the road.
The Pioneers improved to 8-5-2 overall, 5-2-2 in the LSC with a header from Maddy Harper, a penalty shot by Haley Ward and an insurance goal from Hannah Schneider.
Eastern’s freshman goalie Taylor Jackson made two saves while playing all 90 minutes.
ENMU sophomore midfielder Victoria Nuñez took two shots and put one of them on-goal, but the Hounds still dropped to 6-4-2 overall, 4-4-1 in the LSC.
Eastern returns to action today, visiting Commerce, Texas, for an 11 a.m. game against LSC foe Texas A&M-Commerce.
The Greyhounds will be home again this Friday against another LSC opponent, UT Permian Basin, with a scheduled noon start.
