Artesia sweeps Clovis volleyball

CLOVIS — Tuesday night saw Clovis drop another volleyball match to Artesia via sweep, but the Wildcats were much more competitive than in the season opener.

The Bulldogs left Rock Staubus Gymnasium with a 25-20, 25-20, 25-19 victory. It was a better performance for Clovis (1-3) than when it opened the season with a 25-13, 25-17, 25-23 setback.

Clovis coach Ruth Chavez said the serving was a bright spot.

“We played a better game against this team than the last time. We were right in the ballgame. I thought we did well. I thought we were better tonight than we were last time. We’re getting better every day. That’s our goal.”

Clovis, which plays at Goddard next Thursday, got eight kills from Madison Flygare, five from Ahna Haskins and two each from Brooklyn Hatley and Mikyla Harkley.
