College soccer: Fort Lewis edges Greyhound men

September 9, 2018

DURANGO, Colo. — Fort Lewis just seems to have a habit of last-minute goals against Eastern New Mexico.

A day after topping the Greyhound women 2-1, the Skyhawks did it to the Greyhound men as Ty Lang scored with seven seconds left in regulation for a 2-1 Fort Lewis victory Saturday at Dirks Field.

Nicolas Perez, who assisted on Lang's game-winner, also scored on a penalty kick in the 64th minute to keep the Skyhawks undefeated at 2-0-1.

The Skyhawks outshot the Greyhounds (2-2) 23-8 overall and 13-4 on goal, as Logan Miears made a career-high 11 saves.

Eastern went into the half with the lead, as Raith Houle scooped up a rebound after Ventura Salcido stopped Craig Brand.

The Greyhounds played down a man for the final 16 minutes, following Marvin Lewin's 74th-minute ejection for a second yellow card. There were four yellow cards issued in the match, all to the Greyhounds.

Eastern will only face Heartland Conference opponents the rest of the regular season, starting Thursday on the road against Texas Permian Basin.
