Serving Clovis, Portales and the Surrounding Communities

Racing commission sets visitation order

RUIDOSO — The New Mexico Racing Commission on Thursday established the order — but no dates — in which it will visit three communities vying for the state’s sixth racino license.

Commissioners said they will hear proposals from Lordsburg, Clovis and Tucumcari, in that order.

Five groups applied for the racetrack/casino license, which the Racing Commission has said it plans to award before the year ends.

Clovis’ Gayla Brumfield, promoting Clovis as a site for the racino, attended Thursday’s NMRC meeting. She said commissioners did not say how many days they plan to spend in Clovis, where three different groups have submitted racino applications.

Brumfield said she expects all site meetings with the NMRC will be open to the public.
