Water items center stage at Portales meeting

August 7, 2018

PORTALES — Well fields and water storage tanks will take center stage at tonight's Portales City Council meeting, making up over half of the action items on the agenda.

The council is expected to award the bid for a water line circulation improvement project that Mayor Ron Jackson said would include improvements to the lines connected to the city's water storage tanks along US 70. A separate action item includes an agreement with Stantec for improvements to the same water storage tanks.

The council will also vote on a resolution regarding the previously approved phase 2 improvements at the Blackwater Well Field and the approval of a lease agreement at the well field for unused land, which Jackson said would be leased to a rancher.

Also on the agenda for tonight's meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Memorial Building Council Chambers, 200 East Seventh Street in Portales:

• A public hearing will be held before the council votes on the transfer of an Allsup's liqour license. Jackson said the transfer is related to the change in stockholders following the death of Lonnie Allsup.

• The council will hear an overview of the city's Infrastructure and Capital Improvement Plan (ICIP). The city will hold a meeting for public input on the plan at 5:15 tonight in the Public Works office at City Hall and it will go to the council for approval at its Aug. 21 meeting.
