Glam leisure steps up on runways

It's quite evident that fashion is continuing its increasingly casual dress code with styles mixing with leggings and sweatshirts to tennis shoes and tees. Designers have embraced the culture so much that one of the newest coined phrases and design aesthetic called glam leisure has made more of a presence on and off the runway.

It's a step up from the athleisure trend that started gaining its popularity in 2015. Glam leisure stepped it up with more luxe and comfort in early 2017 and the concept is described within itself. It is chic yet super comfortable and is something I've been doing for years.

I've always contended that if a fabric didn't have at least 8 percent nylon in it that it wasn't worth wearing. Because comfort and versatility is important, I will rarely wear one-pieces or any fabrics that are rough. It's important to be able to move with ease and comfort.

The seasons newest styles are perfect for those moms who wear the workout gear with no intention of working out. I'm guilty of it too and we all know someone else who is as well. If you can't see yourself mixing sportswear with evening wear, it's okay. Although it sounds tricky, this glam leisure version of sportswear isn't necessarily meant for the gym.

Most of the trends designs are inspired by sportswear fabrics and the convenience of zippers, etc. To get the look, you don’t necessarily have to take a trip to the athletics department. However, the formal and informal mix is for those who aren't afraid to experiment with the versatility of fashion. For instance, Gucci designed a bedazzled tracksuit for spring 2018 that I doubt is suited for running track.

My first experiments with glam leisure started before it's time back in early 2001 when I paired my silver prom heels with a pair of low-rise jeans and a fanny pack. I wish I had pictures of that moment. I was determined to bring back the fanny pack. My peers did not approve. But like a famous artist and designer recently tweeted, that trend is always late.
