Reporter's notebook: Keep it clean

The final results are in from Saturday’s cleanup activities in Portales and despite a low turnout, only slightly less trash was collected than last year.

Portales Deputy City Clerk Veda Urioste said approximately 250 30-gallon bags of trash were collected throughout the city on Saturday during the Great American Cleanup, Eastern in Action and dumping at the Convenience Center.

Urioste said that total is about 30 bags fewer than last year.

Urioste said she was hoping for a larger turnout for the Great American Cleanup but was happy with the final tally of trash collected.
