Reporter's notebook: Stressed state

If you have been working your stress ball extra hard lately you’re probably not alone. New Mexico was ranked the second-most stressed state in the nation, according to a report from WalletHub, a personal finance website.

The report evaluated 38 different factors in four different categories of stress relating to work, money, family and health and safety including average work week, median income, divorce rate, suicide rate and physical activity rate.

According to the report, New Mexico has the second-highest percent of people living below the poverty line and the second-highest crime rate per capita, two factors that lead to the Land of Enchantment’s high stress rating.

The South and the Southwest appear to have a proclivity toward stress as Louisiana earned the top spot and West Virginia, Mississippi and Nevada made up the rest of the top five in Wallethub’s report.
