Parker, ENMU track team honored

PORTALES — The Eastern New Mexico University men's track program got a double shot of recognition Wednesday morning.

On an individual note, sophomore Marcus Parker was selected as one of three co-winners of the Lone Star Conference's men's track athlete of the week. Parker finished seventh in the 100 at the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays Saturday, and was the only Division II runner to qualify for the finals.

Parker's time is the fastest in Division II by .15 seconds, and automatically qualifies him for the NCAA Championships.

This is the second LSC weekly honor of 2018 for Parker, who also claimed the award during the indoor track season, and his fourth weekly award overall. He was twice honored during the 2017 outdoor season.

On a team note, the Greyhound men's team moved up in the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Association Poll, going from 24th to 20th.

The Greyhounds are one of four LSC teams in the top 20, along with Texas A&M-Kingsville at second, Angelo State fifth and West Texas A&M 10th.
