Roads, vehicles to be focus of meeting

PORTALES — Roads and the county vehicles driving on them will be a focus of today’s Roosevelt County Commission meeting.

Commissioners will be given the opportunity to add their suggestions to the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s State Transportation Improvement Program.

The program includes “proposed road and bridge projects” on federal and state highways, and the public is encouraged to submit suggestions, according to a NMDOT press release.

Roosevelt County Manager Amber Hamilton said she’s including it so commissioners can “discuss what potential comments they would like to submit on behalf of Roosevelt County for the statewide improvement plan.”

A fleet workshop will take place after the meeting wherein the sheriff’s office, road department, and other county departments will inform the commission of the “current status of everyone’s fleets and any specific fleet needs that they anticipate coming up in the next budget cycle,” Hamilton said.

Also at today’s meeting at 9 a.m. in the Roosevelt County Courthouse:

• A request for the disposal of three sheriff’s office trucks through public auction.

• Consideration of approval of reporting through the Public Employees Retirement Association of New Mexico from the Milnesand and Arch volunteer fire departments.

• Consideration of the annual certified county mileage, which totals 1,218 miles in 2018.t
