Sandia starts strong, holds off Clovis boys

ALBUQUERQUE — Lucas Jordan scored 21 points and hit four 3-pointers, and Sandia (8-15, 2-8) held off Clovis 63-51 after staking out a 21-14 first-quarter lead.

"They came out, shot the ball well early," Clovis coach Scott Robinson said. "They hit three 3s in the first, got off to a good start shooting the ball."

The Wildcats, led by Jakeem Wynn's 18 points, hit seven 3-pointers just like the Matadors. But Clovis (8-15, 0-9) spent most of the night playing catch-up.

"They played zone on us quite a bit," Robinson said. "They were willing to give us the 3-ball. They were kind of able to keep a cushion."

The Wildcats did cut it to four in the fourth, the Sandia responded with a 10-0 run to put things on ice.

Dylan Perry added 18 and Mekhi Huynh 12 for the Matadors.

Clovis finishes out the regular season Saturday against La Cueva at home.
