Officials call off search for person of interest in phone threats

CLOVIS — An investigation this week into unspecified telephonic threats remained active Thursday, said police, but officials called off their search for a person of interest.

Three arrests were made Tuesday while attempting to locate Brian Weiss, whom officials spoke to Wednesday night after issuing a news release about the investigation earlier that evening.

The cooperative investigation started Monday between Cannon Air Force Base Office of Special Investigations and Clovis Police Department Special Operations Unit concerning unverified “telephonic threats,” details of which were thin. A disturbance at a local church Wednesday stemming from “unverified information” prompted the CPD news release, it said.

That release went out around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and said officials sought public assistance in locating Weiss, 36, a “person of interest.”

Weiss spoke with The News around 8:30 p.m. that night and said he wasn’t hiding from police. He volunteered his location on Dartmouth Street and said that information was easily accessible. Those details then went into an article posted online soon after 9 p.m.

“We did locate and speak with Mr. Weiss last night,” CPD Capt. Roman Romero said in an email Thursday afternoon. “Since this is still under investigation, I cannot comment any further.”

Weiss told The News police came to his residence around 10 p.m. Wednesday and he agreed to speak with them at the CPD station. After a couple hours talking there he departed on foot back to his residence, he said Thursday.

Officials executed a search warrant at a Rio Street residence Tuesday intending to locate Weiss but instead found three others wanted on unrelated charges. Gabrielle Carver, 25, and Cji Adkins, 34, were taken into custody on distinct outstanding arrest warrants, while Albert Armijo, 35, “was held by probation and parole,” Romero said.

Weiss was not arrested and court records show no charges against him pertaining to telephone threats. He denied having a role in any such activity when speaking to The News this week.
