Reporter's notebook: 'Saul' coming back to NM

ALBUQUERQUE — AMC’s award-winning drama “Better Call Saul” will return to New Mexico for production of the television show’s fourth season, the New Mexico Film Office announced via press release.

The Albuquerque-based production will employ 150 New Mexico crew members, approximately 50-100 New Mexico principal actors and approximately 1,500 New Mexico background actors.

“Better Call Saul” is a prequel to the megahit “Breaking Bad,” which was also shot and based in Albuquerque.

Production began last week and the show’s fourth season is slated to debut in the fall.

Other projects shot in New Mexico scheduled for release this year include “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” (a Netflix anthology series from the Coen brothers), “Waco” (a miniseries detailing the 51-day standoff between law enforcement and David Koresh and his followers that will debut Jan. 24 on the Paramount Network, formerly known as Spike) and “12 Strong” (a film about CIA officers and U.S. Special Forces sent to Afghanistan following the 9/11 attacks, set for a nationwide release on Friday).
