1988: Heavy equipment operators were breaking ground for a $1.2 million educational complex for the Texico school system.

Jim Bell Construction of Albuquerque was in charge of the project, which Texico Superintendent James Pierce said was expected to take about 300 days to complete.

The complex was going up across the street from the high school, and included additional classrooms, a new office for the superintendent, and a three-section multipurpose room capable of holding more than 600 people.

Funding for the project included a bond and a two-mill levy, both passed by voters.

1978: Roosevelt County Sheriff Sonny Carter reported his department had recovered 81 percent of all goods stolen in the county during the 1976-77 fiscal year.

From June 1976 through July 1977, $95,377 worth of items was stolen within the county, and the Roosevelt County Sheriff's Office recovered goods valued at $86,951.

In an Associated Press article, Carter said he was "happy with the results," but added that "fewer burglaries would happen in the first place if county residents would notify the sheriff's office when they are going out of town."
