Grady basketball teams split

GRADY — The Grady boys basketball team stayed in command the whole way and defeated Des Moines 55-44 at home Thursday.

The Bronchos led 13-6 after the first quarter and never looked back, as they climbed to .500 (4-4).

“We jumped on ’em really quick,” Grady head coach Jonathan Langan said. “Should’ve been up more, just didn’t take care of the ball. We controlled the tempo of the game. Whatever we wanted to do, we controlled it.”

Chisholm Rush poured in 25 points to lead Grady. He was joined in double figures by teammates Lucas Whitehead (12) and Isaiah Mitchell (10).

Lady Bronchos fall in fourth quarter

GRADY — The Grady girls basketball team was playing a solid game against visiting Des Moines Thursday, even leading after three quarters, but was outscored 13-4 in the fourth and lost 43-38.

“Yeah, we had a terrible fourth quarter,” Grady head coach Tammy Northcutt said. “We just played them on Saturday night in that Hondo Tournament and had to turn around and play them again tonight.”

The Lady Bronchos dropped to 5-3 as a result of Thursday’s loss.

They had led 18-17 at halftime and 34-30 heading into the fourth quarter.

Despite the loss, Grady’s Yara Sotelo dropped in 15 points, tying Des Moines’ Tasha McDonald for the game high.

The Lady Bronchs will play at Vaughn on Saturday, tipping off at 2 p.m.
