New fire danger signs going up

CLOVIS - Curry County is close to putting up five new fire danger signs on various highways, advising locals and passers-by of upcoming hazards.

The signs were assembled by Fire and Safety Director David Kube, whose labor applies to the in-kind county funding match required of the $5,000 grant supported by the New Mexico Association of Counties and the National Fire Plan.

Funding for the project comes through the Bureau of Land Management.

Kube said this summer that some of the signs were likely to go up in Melrose, west of the port of entry at Texico and east of Grady on state road 241 near Bellview.

The local New Mexico Department of Transportation will install the signs, Kube said Wednesday.
