Portales school board gets award

PORTALES — The Portales Municipal Schools Board of Education will be recognized at its meeting at 6 p.m. Monday for being named the large-district school board of the year in 2017.

The board — comprised of members Antonio Sanchez, Inez Rodriguez, Alan Garrett, Rod Savage and Randy Rankin — won the New Mexico School Board Association’s 2017 School Board of the Year award in November.

NMSBA Executive Director Joe Guillen said the board was selected for participation in state and national school board training opportunities, as well as for earning leadership development awards through NMSBA.

“The board is a dedicated and well-tenured group of individuals who have only the best interest of their community, staff and students,” he said.

Also at Monday’s meeting in the board room of the L.C. Cozzens Administrative Offices:

n Presentation and approval of the Portales Junior High School cafeteria remodel project.

n Revision of the finance department’s manual of procedures for capital and Senate Bill 9 funds.

n Payment of bills and expenditures.

n Approval of 16 budget adjustment requests.
