Suspect at large after armed robbery

CLOVIS - A suspect was still at large Friday evening after an armed robbery occurred earlier in the afternoon at a Subway restaurant on the 700 block of East 21st Street.

Clovis police received a call Friday at 2:07 p.m. reporting that an individual had placed a sandwich order and then gave the cashier a note demanding the money in the register.

"During this, the cashier reported seeing the grip of a handgun held by the suspect's right hand in the suspect's waistband," said a police department press release. The cashier cooperated and the individual took the cash and the sandwich and ran off on foot down Ross Street, said Capt. Roman Romero.

The individual was described as an Hispanic male, approximately 5-foot, 7-inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds with a tattoo on his left hand and "some kind of acne scarring" on his face, Romero said.

The press release said he may have also had neck tattoos that were covered up with clothing.

Romero said the first of several responding officers was on scene at 2:11 p.m. "but didn't locate anyone matching that description."

There were no injuries and the incident is still under investigation.

Surveillance footage suggested there were no other customers in the store at the time.

"Customers had been leaving just moments after he arrived," Romero said.

Police are circulating video surveillance images of the subject, seen "wearing tan pants, a black shirt with its top button fastened, and a white T-shirt."

Anyone with information to assist identifying the subject can call police or submit an anonymous tip to the Curry County Crime Stoppers at 575-763-7000.
