Man shot after allegedly breaking into home

CLOVIS — A man alleged to have broken into a home on the 2500 block of Ross Street was shot about 10 p.m. Wednesday, according to Clovis Police Chief Doug Ford.

The injured man, who wasn't identified by Ford, was taken to Plains Regional Medical Center and listed in critical condition.

Ford said the resident, who was not injured, came home Wednesday night and found the suspect inside his house. After a brief altercation, during which the suspect appeared to throw something at the resident, the resident fired one round and the suspect went down, Ford said.

Police closed off the block following the incident while they secured the area. Ford said police believed there may have been a second suspect, based on the presence of two bicycles outside the residence.

Ultimately, police determined that only one suspect had entered the house and they cleared the area by about 11 p.m.

The investigation is ongoing. As of Wednesday afternoon, police had not confirmed the identities of the parties involved or any charges or arrests made following the incident.
