Vehicle collides with ambulance

CLOVIS — A civilian vehicle collided with a city ambulance en route to a medical emergency Thursday morning, but no injuries or delays to medical service resulted, authorities said.

“It was not really much, it was just a minor fender-bender really,” said Fire Department Battalion Chief Joel Gershon.

The ambulance was impacted while turning from Grand Avenue onto Thornton Street just before 11:30 a.m., Gershon said. Two cars had pulled to the side of Grand Avenue, where the ambulance was traveling westbound. After the ambulance signaled to turn, one of those cars’ drivers “misjudge(d) the distance and began to pull forward,” after the ambulance, striking its passenger side rear tire area, Gershon said.

Gershon said there were no injuries or major property damage.

Another nearby ambulance picked up the emergency call and no delay in service came out of the collision, he said.

Gershon said police have already determined fault in the collision and issued citations — none to city employees.
