Yucca FCCLA students awarded

Yucca Middle School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) students received a pair of group awards during the 71st FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Albuquerque, according to a release from Clovis Municipal School.

The students, who garnered third place in the New Mexico FCCLA state championships with 342 points, were recipients of the Largest Middle School Award (at least 65 students) and the Community Service Award for donating 230 hand-made dog toys for a local animal shelter.

Officals said the state championship is determined by points for membership, state awarded medals, number of students competing at the state level, and attendance at CORE training.

Yucca Middle School also had four national qualifiers who will represent New Mexico FCCLA July 2-6 in Nashville, Tennessee — Alina Chavez-Estenzo, Julian Woods, Juan Reyna and Heidy Alonso.

Overall 25 students competed in 10 national- and state-level events.
