Portales council to get update on substation

PORTALES — An update on the progress of building a Portales Fire Department substation on the north side of Portales will be given at today’s Portales City Council meeting.

PFD Chief Gary Nuckols will be presenting the design of the substation to councilors, according to City Manager Sammy Standefer.

“The design’s ready, and then roughly, we’re going to propose a plan to move forward on it and a timeline,” he said. “It’s a PowerPoint to give the council an idea of what it’s going to look like, cost estimates.”

A project participation agreement with Ambience Hospitality for the revitalization of the Portales Inn will also be up for approval by councilors.

Ambience Hospitality is interested in renovating the hotel and is asking the council for assistance through the Local Economic Development Act “that will be paid out through milestones for the project,” said Standefer.

The following are other items listed on the agenda for today’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Memorial Building:

• A resolution authorizing the mayor or mayor pro-tem to apply for hardship funds through the New Mexico Department of Transportation

• A resolution declaring the intent of the city of Portales to submit an application to the New Mexico Department of Transportation for fiscal year 2018 Local Government Road Funds

• A resolution approving and ratifying existing loans of the Eastern New Mexico Water Utility Authority by and between the authority and the New Mexico Finance Authority

• Recommendations from the Economic Development Finance Review Committee for a request for economic development funds for the Roosevelt County Community Development Corporation
