Officials confirm student died on ENMU campus

PORTALES — Eastern New Mexico University officials confirmed Thursday a student died on campus.

Vice President of Student Affairs Jeff Long said an 18-year-old female from Kamuela, Hawaii, was found dead Thursday in her dorm room at Eddy Hall.

In an email to the campus community, ENMU President Steven Gamble identified the student as freshman Kayleb Makalapua Horn.

“We have not had cause of death confirmed,” Long said. “To our knowledge at this point, there were no criminal circumstances at play.”

Long said the student’s family has been informed of her death, and the university would be making counselors available to students in Eddy Hall.
