Man found guilty of battery, false imprisonment

CLOVIS — A Clovis man was found guilty of false imprisonment and battery of a household member, according to a release from the district attorney’s office.

Jeremy Roberts, 38, will be sentenced at a later date. He faces up to two-and-a-half years in prison, and could receive a sentence enhancement for a prior felony conviction.

According to the release:

• The charges stemmed from a May 2015 incident, where a woman told Clovis police she and Roberts had an argument. She said Roberts struck her in the face and wouldn’t allow her to leave. The victim said she had to wait two days for Roberts to leave so she could call police.

• District Judge Fred Van Soelen presided over the trial. The jury deliberated for less than an hour before reaching the guilty verdict.

• The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Rebecca Ralph, and Roberts was defended by Assistant Pubilc Defender Chris Christensen.

Christensen was in trial Thursday, and a message left at his office was not immediately returned.
