Western New Mexico at ENMU

When: 7:30 p.m. today in a Lone Star Conference game at Greyhound Arena.

Records: Western New Mexico 2-19 (0-13 LSC), ENMU 9-14 (3-10)

Last time out: Saturday, the Mustangs lost at Tarleton State 86-45, while ENMU upended Texas A&M-Commerce 72-65 on the road.

Last meeting: Jan. 3, the Greyhounds beat WNMU 78-71 at Silver City. It’s the only LSC game the Mustangs have lost by fewer than 14 points.

Of note: WNMU is obviously going through a trying first year in the LSC after moving over from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. … Western’s wins were over Oklahoma Panhandle State (83-73) and Benedictine University at Mesa (67-59), both at home. The Mustangs, who come in on a nine-game losing streak, are 0-10 on the road this season. … Leading scorers for WNMU are sophomore Gs Jordan Enriquez (12.6 ppg) and Clovis High grad Willie McCray (11.0 ppg). In his first year at WNMU, McCray led the team in scoring (11.0 ppg). … Matt Enriquez, Jordan’s older brother, in is his 15th year at WNMU as a player, men’s assistant, women’s interim head coach for the last part of the 2015-16 campaign and now men’s head coach, a position to which he was named last April. In his four years as a player (2002-06), he finished with 1,591 points and was named to the WNMU Hall of Fame.

Women

Western New Mexico at ENMU

When: 5:30 p.m. today in a Lone Star Conference game at Greyhound Arena.

Records: Western New Mexico 4-17 (0-14 LSC), ENMU 16-5 (12-2)

Last time out: Saturday, the Lady Mustangs lost at Tarleton State 84-70, while ENMU dropped an 83-65 decision at Texas A&M-Commerce.

Last meeting: Jan. 3, the Greyhounds beat the Mustangs 80-67 at Silver City.

Of note: Like their male counterparts, the Lady Mustangs are finding the sledding tough in their first year of LSC play. They started 4-1, but come in on a 16-game losing streak and are 0-9 on the road this season. Saturday’s loss was their second-closest so far in LSC play, but WNMU trailed by 23 points before compiling a 30-point fourth quarter. … Three of the team’s wins came on neutral courts, The Lady Mustangs are just 1-8 this season at home. … Leading scorers are senior G Jordan Gutierrez (17.9 ppg) and junior F Jade Botelho (11.2). Perhaps surprisingly, both carry slightly higher scoring averages in LSC games. … Gutierrez, who shares the conference’s individual scoring lead with Texas Woman’s Kenesha Saygo, has led the team in scoring 11 times and shared the lead in another game. … WNMU is shooting just 35 percent from the floor and 27 percent from 3-point range, but the Lady Mustangs lead the conference in FT shooting at 77 percent (222-of-290). Almost half of that, though, is from Gutierrez (94-of-114, 82 percent). No one else has more than 36 FTAs.
