Roosevelt jail gets certificate

PORTALES — The Roosevelt County Adult Detention Center has received certification for its three-year state accreditation from the Adult Detention Professional Standards Council (ADPSC), a joint initiative of the New Mexico Association of Counties and the New Mexico Municipal League, according to a Roosevelt County press release.

RCDC was officially accredited on Jan. 1 but received the certificate on Jan. 19 during the New Mexico Association of Counties’ 2017 Legislative Conference in Santa Fe.

“The Certificate of Accreditation is awarded to county detention facilities that meet or exceed best practice standards in detention as developed and approved by the ADPSC,” according to the release, with 208 standards that must be followed with policy and documentation.

Roosevelt County Manager Amber Hamilton said RCDC is the smallest facility in the state to achieve accreditation.

“Roosevelt County’s detention team is young, passionate and extremely driven in achieving this goal of accreditation. There were extraordinary efforts put forth by the entire team,” said Hamilton. “It has been truly challenging for our facility, both financially and physically.”
