Tax board recommends $65,200 in disbursements

CLOVIS — The Clovis Lodger’s Tax Advisory Board received $99,700 in requests for their first quarterly meeting of 2017, and recommended disbursements of $65,200.

Members Don David, Juan Garza, Thomas Martin and Girish Pandya were present at the quarterly meeting. The Clovis city commission will consider the recommendations at its Jan. 19 meeting.

Approvals include $4,000 of the New Mexico High School Rodeo Association’s $8,000 request for all around saddles.

The request was for eight saddles: four each for high school and junior high school rodeo participants.

The board also granted $5,000 of a $10,000 request for the Home Builder’s Association to promote its Home and Garden show.

A total of $12,200 was granted to the Chamber of Commerce including:

• $4,000 for promotion of the music festival, out of an $8,000 request

• None for in-house printing, out of a $5,000 request

• $3,000 for promotion of the Chamber’s Pioneer Days event, out of a $5,000 request

• $4,000 for tourism folders, the full amount requested

• $1,200 for repair of a promotional billboard in Muleshoe for the Rock and Roll Museum, the full amount requested.

A request of $4,000 for tourism packets was tabled for the next meeting.

Board members also approved the following:

• $12,000 out of a $15,000 request for promotion of the Draggin’ Main event

• $5,000 out of a $7,500 for promotion of the Miss Rodeo Pageant

• $15,000 out of a $20,000 request for promotion of the Pioneer Days Rodeo event

• A full request of $12,000 for promotion of the Clovis Reunion Calf Roping event.
