Meetings watch: Clovis City Commission

The Clovis city commission is scheduled to meet 5:15 p.m. today at the North Annex of the Clovis Carver Public Library.

A key item is introduction of an ordinance to update the alcohol policy at the Clovis Municipal Airport.

Under the ordinance, city code would be changed to read, “It is unlawful for any person to consume alcoholic beverage at Clovis Municipal Airport.”

The recommendation was approved by a 5-1 vote in the Nov. 1 Civil Aviation Board meeting. Jim Jennings voted against the recommendation, because he felt it shouldn’t apply to people inside privately-rented hangars.

During Tuesday evening’s Civil Aviation Board meeting, City Manager Larry Fry said if the ordinance is introduced, it would be likely be up for approval at the Feb. 2 meeting.

Other agenda items include:

• An extension of a farm lease between the city and Mitchell Harrison.

Officials said Harrison, by assignment from Harrison Family Partnership, is the tenant of the City for the farming operation at the Ingram Farm property near the landfill.

In 2016, the Commission approved extending the farm lease to allow the tenant to apply for the water conservation program, commonly known as the Ogallala Initiative — which requires the tenant have at least three years remaining on the lease of the property.

Additionally, officials said the tenant was successful in obtaining acceptance of 60.4 acres into the conservation program in 2016 and would like to apply for the remaining 90 to 100 irrigated acres in 2017.

• Approval of an annual joint powers agreement between the city of Clovis and Curry County.

• Requested approval of new restaurant beer and wine license to be located at 3501 North Prince Street (Chipotle Mexican Grill).

• Requested approval of one citizen member to serve on the Commission on Older Adults.

• Requested approval of two citizens members to serve on the Cultural and Ethnic Affairs Committee.
