1971: A Clovis man rode his horse to the Chapparral Lounge. When he walked out 45 minutes later, he discovered thieves had stolen the horse's saddle and bridle.

The horse was still there.

Evert Taylor said the saddle was valued at $750.

1966: The Dallas Cowboys were preparing to square off against Green Bay for the National Football League championship.

"The much-tested Dallas secondary therefore will be on the spotlight ... in front of a sellout crowd of 75,504 in Dallas' Cotton Bowl and countless millions in front of their television screens," United Press International reported.

The Packers won, 34-27, as Quarterback Bart Starr threw touchdown passes to four different receivers.

Tucumcari-born Danny Villanueva kicked a pair of field goals and three extra points to lead the Cowboys in scoring.
